velope says:

the gzip'd archives at lists.tpo are incorrectly double-gzip'd. one can use them by adding a second .gz extension when downloading them and then running gunzip twice. i checked the files for several lists and for several recent months.

Here's an example:

tor-talk: 2012-October.txt.gz

gzip -d 2012-October.txt.gz
file 2012-October.txt
2012-October.txt: gzip compressed data, was "/var/lib/mailman/archives/private/tor-talk/2012-October.txt", last modified: Thu Oct 11 23:27:00 2012, max compression

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

mod_deflate together with firefox and downloading files don't play nice.

SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \.gz$ no-gzip dont-vary

fixed it.
