I have a similar error on tor toggle, in firefox 3.0

Please file bug report! Error applying Non-Tor settings: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsISHistory.PurgeHistory]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://torbutton/content/torbutton.js :: torbutton_clear_history :: line 1230" data: no]

Do you have a strange permissions setup? For example, a profile installed/created by the administrator
but you are a regular user? (Ie some corporate domain setups, or potentially Vista?)

comment:3 Changed 11 years ago by life

No, user have administrator privileges, but it's a vista. 32bit. sorry that does not immediately wrote

Very weird.. Is it possible for you to go to about:config and change the extensions.torbutton.loglevel to 2, and then
open the Tools->Error console and paste me a few (like 5-10) log messages before+after the exception occurs?

Or if you know how to save the output of stdout in windows, you can change the extensions.torbutton.logmethod to 0.
It might be easier to cut+paste or redirect to a file.

Btw, Ruben, your issue is actually different. Another user has filed it as bug 734. It is caused by the
clear history on toggle pref. Workaround is to disable history writes for tor+non tor in the security
prefs instead of using the clear history option.

Yepp it is. thanks. will wait for updates.

comment:7 Changed 11 years ago by mikeperry

Actually, life, I still need those logs from you.. This doesn't happen for me and I don't have
a copy of vista handy.

Life: what firefox version do you use. Also, I notice you have a strange directory there for your
Firefox profile. Are you using Vista Roaming Profiles or something? Are the permissions set
properly on this profile for you to access/modify the files in it? (Ie on your desktop, documents,
and general application settings?) Can you traverse into that directory there and try to
create/copy/remove some files manually?

comment:10 Changed 11 years ago by life

I have
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008052906 Firefox/3.0

and apparently Roaming Profiles enabled by default.
permission set properly and i can create/copy/modify/remove files in folders

C:\Users\life\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1b6tutni.default\extensions\{e0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca}(149)\ - torbutton extensions folder
C:\Users\life\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

When I wrote this message I noticed weird things torbutton simply disappeared from addons list and statusbar, I had to re-install to see it.
now I have second folder for torbutton extension

C:\Users\life\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1b6tutni.default\extensions\{e0204bd5-9d31-402b-a99d-a6aa8ffebdca}\

and it still does not work for me.

Hrmm. This may be related to bug 720, which is itself caused by a bug in the Firefox cookie manager.

You don't happen to have a Firefox 2 install you can test with on that same user+machine, do you?

I also can't turn off torbutton. I get the error:

Error applying Non-Tor settings: [Exception... "Component returned failure
code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsISHistory.PurgeHistory" nresult:
"0x800040005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://torbutton/
content/torbutton.js :: torbutton_clear_history :: line 1230" data:no]

I have everything checked in "TorButton Preferences - Security Settings - History".

I am running XP SP2 and Firefox 2.0.0.15.

Everything was fine until both Firefox and TorButton updated themselves yesterday.

Here are some lines from my log:

foobar: Your issue is a different bug (734). It should be fixed in the next release (or the attached snapshot)

life: I've attached a development snapshot of torbutton with a new cookie jar (contributed by arno). It should
be under the attachments pane. Can you try it out and see if your cookies are properly preserved? Also, watch the
Javascript error console for these two warnings:

"Cookie file deletion exception:"
"Cookie file copy exception:"

Please let me know the results.

Wait, what is the exact behavior you're experiencing with the new version? I don't see those error messages
above in the logs.. I see some unrelated excceptions at DEBUG level, but those are harmless.

Are you still getting the permissions denied error with a popup window? Are you sure you properly
installed the snapshot (check Tools->Addons and make sure the Torbutton version is 1.2.0rc4-dev, not 1.2.0rc4).

comment:16 Changed 11 years ago by life

no popup, no permition denied error, just "Proxy Server Refused Connection" and wierd no response when i try to disable tor extension.
I am sure that I have 1.2.0rc4-dev in addons.

comment:17 Changed 11 years ago by mikeperry

Is it possible your proxy settings are messed up due to Torbutton being wedged in the broken state?

Can you try hitting the Restore Defaults button and see if that improves the situation? If that doesn't work, perhaps
manually setting your proxy settings to something known? (But let me know if the Restore Defaults button fails).

comment:18 Changed 11 years ago by life

When i hit Restore Defaults button Firefox does not response for 5 minutes, then he returned and i have the same result "Proxy Server Refused Connection".
And another news torbutton extension work fine for me when i launched OperaTor with Firefox. I have no more words. :(

flyspray2trac: bug closed.
I suspect the original issue was fixed in 1.2.0rc5 and the user encountered an unrelated issue. In any case, they've moved on to operator. Best of luck. I'm sure it's just as secure.
