Mailto: Gmail, does not work

Using Tor Browser: "Mailto: Gmail", does not work

Changing the mailto preference to gmail (preferences > applications > mailto), then clicking on an email address generates a warning about opening an external application. If you click "launch application" absolutely nothing happens. It should open a new tab in tor browser and go to the gmail compose site.

Solved (though poorly documented):

In about:config, network.protocol-handler.external.mailto needs to be returned to true.

For this to work, you need to set network.protocol-handler.external.mailto to true and configure the Tor Browser to use Gmail for all mailto: links. I don't think this is something we should include by default in TBB.

Yes, that's what I said the other day (above); but hacking the config file is not exactly user-level convenient.

Hrmm, yeah sounds like changing this pref is not a solution by itself. We'd also need to make sure that the handler registration that enabling this pref allows couldn't also allow other apps/unapproved handlers to get launched.
