Mailto: Gmail, does not work

Using Tor Browser: "Mailto: Gmail", does not work

Changing the mailto preference to gmail (preferences > applications > mailto), then clicking on an email address generates a warning about opening an external application. If you click "launch application" absolutely nothing happens. It should open a new tab in tor browser and go to the gmail compose site.
