check.torproject.org incorrectly reports security updates are available

Description

This happens literally every time I upgrade tor (the browser bundle for 64-bit Linux). I have just downloaded and untarred the latest version, and the check.torproject.org page that comes up tells me "There is a security update available for the Tor Browser Bundle." No, there's not. In addition, the "Tor enabled" vidalia button in the Firefox toolbar blinks with the update warning.

This is a serious problem; if users cannot trust tor update warnings, they will ignore real update warnings and their security is compromised.

Do you untar it into a new directory, or do you untar it over an old one?

Which version do you have now?

I think we might want to close this one, on the theory that TBB 3.x has a much better way of handling update warnings. Or I guess we could leave it open and rotting until TBB 2.x goes away more.
