Description

I entered a proxy setting for tor during a visit to an office. Once I left that office, I could no longer connect to tor.

The error message is that it's still trying to find the proxy for https settings, and the server doesn't exist

(nor does it resolve)

Hm. Nobody's commented on this because we don't have any idea what you mean.

Entered a proxy setting for Tor into what? (And why manually change anything --
shouldn't you just use Torbutton like everybody else?)

"I could no longer connect to tor" because Tor wasn't running anymore? Or why?

"The error message is" -- error message from what application? And when you try
to do what?

Sorry if all the details were not spelled out. Here it is:

I used my laptop in an office with no direct web connection out. That office only allows http connection through an outgoing proxy.

The Tor client is designed for this, hence, we can tell tor to use a proxy as its outgoing connection.

By setting this up, I was able to successfully use Tor from the offices I was in.

Once I left that office, I no longer needed to use the proxy to access the outside world. So I cleared the proxy settings both from Firefox (regular browsing) and Tor client. The Tor client however could never connect to the outside world again, as it was STILL trying to use the proxy I had specified.

So ....

Once we set a proxy in the tor client, we can no longer clear the setting. I had to uninstall Tor and reinstall.

Hope this is clearer

did you enter the proxy via vidalia or into the torrc directly?

From Vidalia:

Control Panel - Settings - Network
The first 2 options were checked:
I use a proxy....
My firewall only lets me ...

I can't recreate this with Vidalia 0.1.15 nor 0.2.4. What version are you running?
