Toggle Between Bandwidth for Relay [Vidalia]

It would be a really nice feature to have a quick toggle for a relay for bandwidth. If someone is running a node on their home connection and they want to throttle it a bit more during waking hours or hours where they are utilizing their connection more I think it would be an incredible feature. A calendar option would be a great feature. Integrating this into Vidalia is critical in my opinion, because there are users who are not comfortable editing a torrc or using anything that is not GUI based, and we do not want to be missing out on possible nodes. Thoughts?

You should be aware that we have no Vidalia developers / maintainers, and also we're dumping it from Tor Browser Bundle starting in 3.x.

Maybe you want to lobby for this to be an Arm feature instead. But maybe Arm's inability to run on Windows will undermine that idea.

It's actually tricky from a relay perspective too -- the directory authorities measure relays and bump their consensus weights up or down depending on how well they perform, and the measurers don't have any notion of relays having wildly different capacities at different times.

Where can I find the roadmap for the dumping of Vidalia to a new platform? I'm new to the trac system so bear with me. I think would be a really good feature in general for Tor users, especially windows users who typically do not do any set up that isn't GUI related.

Replying to arma: is a good start.

Thank you. So are you thinking that this feature would not be feasible, and not worth time thinking about?

This comment is probably too late, but FWIW IMO dumping Vidalia would make bridge operators' work less rewarding. I've been running a bridge with browser version 3.5 and standalone Vidalia on Win7 for weeks at a time. Despite apparent bugs in this setup, Vidalia's Log, Map, and BW Usage displays (along with the Atlas incorporated into 3.5) are still useful in giving some assurance that the bridge is doing its job.

Re dumping of Vidalia: Though perhaps it wouldn't help most bridge operators running windows, those of us who are automating the monitoring of our bridges could use command-line switches for bandwidth usage and the log. A partial replacement for the Map is port monitoring, which, if I'm not mistaken, at least gives the connection of the bridge to guard relays.
