Syria
Summary of the current situation
Short summary about current situation. Relays as well as bridges are blocked at this point.
First witnessed
The first reports of Tor being blocked emerged at December 16, 2012. It happened just a few days after the Internet was shut down in Syria. The downtime might have been used to deploy (new?) DPI boxes. The usage statistics suggest that the deployment happened immediately rather than incremental.
Last witnessed
The block still seems to be ongoing.
Types of Tor censorship
Almost nothing is known at this point. It is probably DPI given that the bridge usage dropped immediately. obfsproxy still works.
Ways to bypass censorship
- Obfsproxy continues to work.

Reproducing the blocking
