Location

Airport

Seatac is the international airport that you'll likely be using if you're coming from afar. Domestically, it is a hub for Alaska and Delta, and internationally there is regular service to Western Europe and Asia.

The airport code for flight booking is 'SEA'

Taxis from the Airport into Seattle can be ~$60, and ride services (uber, lyft, etc.) are now allowed to pick up passengers at the airport. https://www.portseattle.org/Sea-Tac/Parking-and-Transportation/Ground-Transportation/Pages/tnc.aspx Driving will take ~25-30 minutes to downtown except for at rush-hour when it will take longer.

The Link Light Rail runs every 5-10 minutes from the airport to downtown at a cost of $3 taking you to walking distance from the event venue. The train will take ~45 minutes to downtown, and runs from 5am until midnight.

Lodging

We currently have a room block reserved for the dates 09/25/16-10/1/16 at the Executive Hotel Pacific. http://www.executivehotels.net/seattle-downtown-hotel/ If you would like to be added to the room block please let us know asap. Email us at: travel@tpo

Interesting local stuff

Local Things Wanted

  • meejah is interesting in any cycling opportunities (but: I will not have a bike there, so rental/borrow suggestions welcome)
  • http://www.thebicyclerepairshop.com/bike-types This shop is really close to AXIS (meeting venue) and Tor Seattle office.
  • King County has one of the most extensive paved trails system in the country. (Ironically, it is built on the old rail right-of-way for a private light rail system that used to connect all of the surrounding communities.)

Craft Beer

  • Out of control... Welcome to Beervana everyone!
  • meejah likes craft beer: specific suggestions? Elysian Space Dust is quite possibly the best west coast IPA ever created. Get it on tap at Elysian Fields linked to above.
  • Make sure you try Mannie's Pale Ale and Lucille IPA from Georgetown Brewery. Georgetown only sells kegs to local bars. They do not bottle/can and they do not distribute outside of western WA. Georgetown Brewery was (famously) started by a Univ. of Washington graduate that "didn't want to get a real job."
  • Pike Brewing was one of the first micro-breweries ever, founded in 1989.
  • Schooner Exact is still owned and run by a husband and wife that originally started it as a nano-brewery "hobby".

Local Regulations

While marijuana and alcohol are both legal in Seattle, consuming either in public (ie outside of a pub or home) is subject to a $27 fine. Both must also be purchased through licensed distributors and/or dispensaries.
