#1373 fixed Deadly decreasing traffic to 6-15 Kbyte/s after 2 hours tor-server work phobos aynvudo
Description

Before the fallowing messages occur the unlimited traffic was about 1Mbyte/s (limited only by ISP), the number of connections was 1500-2000 and permanently increased.

But according to only one, "common/crypto.c", line 1826: log_warn(LD_CRYPTO, "Cannot seed RNG -- no entropy source found."); and the block before that

static const char *filenames[] = {

"/dev/srandom", "/dev/urandom", "/dev/random", NULL

};

there is a /dev/random: # ls -1l /dev/random # crw-r--r-- 1 root root 1, 8 Aug 31 2002 /dev/random

There are two OpenSSL installations: the original from RHL distribution and in the /usr/local/ssl (OpenSSL 0.9.8l 5 Nov 2009).

After the messages above and 2 working hours the traffic became about 6-15 Kbyte/s, the number of connections became about 4078. This behavior I see last two months. But before this months the tor-server 0.2.1.21 works fine and now I built on RHL tor 0.2.1.25 that has the same symptom.

Also take into account lowering of number of Tor-servers from 1800-1900 in January and 1200-1400 now. I think, the problem above could lead to this.

The some last contents of /usr/local/var/log/tor/notices.log

#1374 fixed No connection anymore phobos anonymous
Description

HI, I am running as Guard Router using Tor IM Browser 0.2.1.25 and Windows 7. After a few days, not using Tor myself, my Firefox and IE lost all contact to the network. Polipo and Vidalia processes are running. I think Firefox is talking to Polipo. View Network in Vidalia doesn’t show any Connections. Tor traffic is still flowing as usual at full speed. I had the same problem with version 0.2.1.24. After restart of the computer the program works fine again. Best Regards STHnet

#1376 fixed router_rebuild_store() uses a needless tmp file pranavrc nickm
Description

In router_rebuild_store(), we use write_chunks_to_file() to build cached_descriptors.tmp, and if that is successful, we rename cached_descriptors.tmp to cached_descriptors.

But write_chunks_to_file() *already* uses a tmpfile to make sure that it doesn't trash the file it's writing to, so we wind up with the following situation:

router_rebuild_store() calls

write_chunks_to_file(), which does:

open("cached_descriptors.tmp.tmp") write rename("cached_descriptors.tmp.tmp","cached_descriptors.tmp")

munmap("cached_descriptors") rename("cached_descriptors.tmp", "cached_descriptors") mmap("cached_descriptors")

One imaginable fix would be to have router_rebuild_store() tell write_chunks_to_file to write into cached_descriptors directly, so that it would write into c-d.tmp then rename it to c-d. That won't work so easily, though: on Windows, you're not allowed to replace a mapped file while it's still mapped.

A better fix would be to add a flag to write_chunks_to_file() so that it takes a flag that decides whether to use a tmpfile or not.

This bug isn't actually hurting anything by doing an extra rename(), so it isn't urgent to fix.
